Start with two plain-language lessons about uncertainty, fees and questions worth asking. Each lesson is 40 seconds so you can read it quickly on a phone or use the full transcript at your own pace.
Two original 40-second text-based lessons. They are silent: all information appears on screen, in optional captions and in the full transcripts. Nothing plays automatically. On a small screen, use full screen or read the transcript at your own pace.
Before paying a debt-relief company, ask for written fees, risks, the timeline and cancellation terms.
Ask: What exact event earns each fee? For debt relief covered by the FTC telemarketing rule, advance fees are prohibited.
For covered services, the provider must obtain a settlement or change, you must agree, and you must make at least one payment under that agreement before its fee is collected.
Ask who owns any dedicated account, how to withdraw and what fees apply. A covered provider cannot collect the whole program fee after settling just one debt.
Compare another option and verify the business independently. Do not share your banking password. Scope and exceptions matter; check FTC guidance.

Go at your own pace
Use the video controls to pause, replay or view full screen. English caption files are available. The complete transcripts are readable without playing or downloading a video and appear when you print the page.
These lessons explain general risks. They do not calculate your likely savings, decide whether you qualify or recommend a provider. You can explore debt options and bring the provider interview checklist to a conversation.
Privacy choices
Optional speed measurements help us improve this website. If you allow them, we send only page speed measurements and a broad page category to our own website. We do not include calculator amounts, form answers, names, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. This choice is saved in this browser until you change it or clear site data. Server access logs may still record your IP address.
Off by default. No optional measurements are sent.
Optional Google measurement
Google measurement is separate from our own optional speed measurements. If you allow it, Google receives an isolated page-view event for a broad public page category and technical connection information, including an IP address. It receives no form answers, calculator entries, full browsing URL, referrer, name, email, or phone from this integration. This does not enable advertising. Your choice is saved in this browser for up to 90 days. You can turn it off here at any time; this stops this integration’s future requests, but cannot erase data already received by Google.
