Debt management plan calculator: payment and fees

Add up a possible debt-management payment and plan fees. Management generally aims to repay included debt; settlement is different.

These totals cover different things. Filing costs leave out debt repayment, property loss, and debt that remains after bankruptcy. A Chapter 13 quote does not show the payment a court would approve. Settlement may leave debt unpaid. The lowest total does not mean you qualify or that an option is right for you.

Risks and trusted sources
Debt settlement can harm credit, add fees and interest, lead to collection efforts or lawsuits, and create tax consequences. Creditors do not have to settle. Bankruptcy can affect your property and does not erase every debt. Get professional advice and read the full written terms before deciding.

What to enter
Use the included debt, assumed annual rate before fees, months, setup fee and monthly plan fee. A counselor must confirm actual creditor participation, rates, eligibility and charges. Suggested numbers are not available offers.
A simple example
For $10,000 at 6% over 48 months, the debt payment is about $234.85. A $25 monthly fee makes the monthly outlay about $259.85. Including a $50 setup fee, total cost is about $12,522.81: $10,000 debt, $1,272.81 interest and $1,250 plan fees.
How it works
Debt payments use a fixed-rate loan formula with annual rate divided by 12. Monthly plan fees are added for every month and setup fees once. At 0% interest, the debt payment is balance divided by months. All creditors are assumed to participate at one rate for the full term.
What it leaves out
Actual creditors can have different rates or refuse participation. Required account closures, payment changes and missed-payment consequences depend on the agreement. This tool does not enroll you or promise an interest reduction.
Read CFPB credit-counseling guidance. The U.S. Trustee Program list concerns pre-bankruptcy counseling approval, not endorsement of a settlement service or every service an organization provides.
Learning tool only. Results depend on your assumptions. They are not an offer, a quote, an eligibility decision or a promised outcome. You can submit a first-contact inquiry; enrollment requires a separate agreement. See important disclosures.
